Reaching 4200 feet, I emerged once again from the trees to find the trail leading up a rock field. The rocks ranged from one inch to two feet. The area was rather unstable, making advancement rather tiresome. In places, it seemed I made two steps forward and one step back. I climbed perhaps 400 feet over this field of rocks, then crossed a snow-covered creek.
