Reaching 3800 feet, I emerged from the forest, into a small meadow. It was apparent that this meadow had seen its share of winter avalanches, for several of the trees were broken near a height of eight feet or so. Beyond the meadow, to the west, was a headwall. The trail crossed a small creek then proceeded northwest, back into the forest, and north of the headwall.
