The major snowfield began around 4800 feet. I took a break before embarking over the soft, white surface, eating some of my trail food, and enjoying some cool water.
Clouds had lingered over the peaks since I hit the trail. I had hoped that they would burn off as the day progressed. Instead, they grew a bit. As I continued my hike on the snow, the clouds provided some welcome shade.
