Once the trail grade eased, the river walk became much more comfortable. The walk through the woods was pleasant, despite my feet having become rather wet by that point. The river was never out of earshot, and usually within sight. The trail crossed the river on a log with no handrail. This was a bit unusual for the park service. Usually, they strip the bark along the top of the log, then use chainsaws to cut notches along the surface providing traction. There is usually a wooden rail attached, much like those seen on the bridge over Grand Creek. I examined the log's bark, though, and found it to be relatively firm and solidly attached. As long as I was careful, there should be no problem crossing this bridge. Thankfully, there wasn't.
