Transcription: Whereas there has been deposited in the General Land Office of the United States a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Wausau, Wisconsin, whereby it appears that, pursuant to the Act of Congress approved 20th May, 1862, "To secure Homesteads to actual settlers on the public domain," and the acts supplemental thereto, the claim of Olaus Johnson has been established and duly consummated in conformity to law for the Southwest quarter of the Northwest quarter and the West half of the Southwest quarter of Section eighteen, in Township thirty north of Range Seventeen East of the Fourth Principal Meridian, in Wisconsin, containing one hundred and eight acres and four hundredths of an acre according to the Official Plat of the Survey of the said Land returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General. Now know ye, That there is therefore granted by the United States unto the said Olaus Johnson the tract of Land above described To Have and To Hold the said tract of Land, with the appurtenances thereof, unto the said Olaus Johnson and to his heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof I, Grover Cleveland, President of the United States of America, have caused these letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed. Peter was sent to new London Conneticut by his brother to get an Englis education and do business in this country. Peter being a fast boy with plenty money ran away from School and was not heard from until he was a marryed man. No one knew not even wife that he had a brother. A sailor from onboard of his brothers ship herd of Peter and made him a visit and found a humble [?] shoe maker instead of a __sale merchant. He at first denyed, but finally and up and got on bord ship and went to Espanola. His brother put him on a plantation to drive [?] Negros and his daughters into a nunry [?] to make Ladyes of them. This was too much for the yanky Lady to bare so in 1780 they came back to Conneticut . the next year his brother sent him $3000 in gold with which bougt a farm on little river Hartland Con where he died. | ||
