The old trail was washed out in places, requiring I climb a hundred feet above the river, over a small hill to continue. In these places it was evident that unofficial trail maintenance had been completed from time to time.
By 10:30 AM I had reached the junction with the Wonderland trail. Turning left would take me to Emerald Ridge and the South Puyallup River. The fork to the right would take me to Indian Henry's. At this junction I stood well above the valley floor, perhaps 150 feet. I worked my way off the trail to a good viewpoint. What had been a broad valley below was now narrower and steep.
