Roughly a mile from the car was another small washout, and the old trailhead. A sign stated that the Tahoma Creek trail was no longer maintained. The path lead to the east now, through the forest just north of the river, but quickly rejoined the edge of the river bed. This meandering in and out of the woods continued for another mile. At some points route finding was tricky. Blue ribbon marked the correct course up the valley, though.
As I worked my way up the valley, I caught glimpses of Mt. Rainier, just 6.5 miles away.
