I considered staying in the basin overnight. But plan B included a visit to Martin's Lakes, an area I always wanted to visit, and within reach on this trip.

I finally decided on the latter. I would spend the night in the Elwha valley and climb up to Martin's Lakes on Friday, spending one or two nights there, depending on weather and "wander-ability" of the area.

The summer sun had warmed considerably by the time I reached the river crosssing again. I stayed several minutes, but finally moved into the trees where it was quite a bit cooler.
