I awoke early, as usual. I made some oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, then packed my gear for my long slog up the valley. Besides the couple at camp, I saw nobody else until mid-afternoon.

The trail meandered away from the river in a few locations, providing me with several silent stretches of hiking.
