LaCrosse Loop '15,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 10, 2015 - Sep 16, 2015     page 4 / 47

My first night was spent at Tenmile camp. This large riverside stopping point was just over eleven miles in. At least that's what my GPS told me. I had the whole place to myself, so I chose a camp area with good water access and a comfortable bench to sit upon.

Having covered several miles for my first day, and with the evening light fading, I decided to bed down just before 8:00pm. Just as I was plugging in the earbuds to listen to some music, a couple appeared, having come from the high country. They busily set up their tent and made their dinner, apologizing for stepping past my camp for water.

The evening was rather warm. I started out in my sleeping bag, which was inside my bivouac bag. Though the bivy was completely unzipped, I was still too warm. I pulled the sleeping bag out of the bivy and began my evening slumber laying on top of the bag. I didn't crawl inside until nearly midnight.
