The sound of the Skokomish River had long disappeared, as I had climbed 1000 feet above it. The trail made a turn eastward into another drainage, that of Madeline Creek. The water here thundered beneath the bridge, and drew with it a cool breeze. A moderate sized campsite could be spotted just down the hill below the crossing.
