The Old Man in the Lake is another unique feature of the lake. It is a log which continues to float in the lake in a vertical position. For some odd reason, the log surface has naturally sealed, so that it does not become waterlogged. The end of the log with roots is heavy and stays pointed downward. It is very stable. Photos of early park rangers can be seen standing atop the log without it tipping at all. This strange log was noted some 100 years ago and is blown around the lake only by the winds.
