The short excursion allowed me to view the ridge south of Gilbert peak. I would hike along this ridge the next day to the summit of Gilbert Peak. I was rather surprised atop the ridge by the strong wind blowing in from the southeast, up the Klickitat Valley. The wind was swift, like that encountered before a storm, but there were no clouds indicating any incoming weather.
I returned to the lake and made some dinner. It was freeze-dried red beans and rice this time. Though the flavor was good, there were a few beans which didn't totally rehydrate. Ahh, the drawbacks of backcountry dinners.
After dinner, as the sun sank lower in the sky, I wandered around the lake.
