Appleton Pass-Cat Lake Traverse, Olympic National Park, Sep 8, 2008 - Sep 12, 2008 page 5 / 71
We awoke on day 2 with clear skies overhead. After a quick breakfast, we continued our hike. The trail continued climbing. In a half mile, we reached the junction with the Appleton Pass trail. Beginning here, we would be hiking into new territory, at least for each of us.
The trail to Appleton Pass is well graded, gaining elevation quickly, but comfortably. Most of the trail is within the woods with only a few highlights. Rocky Creek was one of the "highlights" of the trail. It was easily crossed, though it appeared that early season crossings could be challenging.
