I finally stopped along the river to refill a water bottle and remove my gaiters and rain pants. After storing my damp clothes, I resumed hiking. Another fifteen minutes later, I reached Three Forks shelter. It was 11:30 AM and partly sunny. I set my gear near an old log which had been transformed for use as a table. I knew I'd need plenty of energy, and lots of water for the climb to Deer Park, so I made some ramen noodles, and mixed in a small can of chicken I had carried for several trips as "extra food." Simple, yet tasty. I drank a bunch of water, and refilled my newly emptied bottle for the hike up the hill. The trail to Deer Park passed one creek along the way. This late in the season its supply of water was insufficient for bottle refills.
