Marmot Pass '06,  Buckhorn Wilderness Area,  Jul 10, 2006 - Jul 11, 2006     page 5 / 48

The trail climbs about 200 feet along the headwall, then turns back to the north. I had entered the basin just east of Marmot Pass. I could see the pass just a couple hundred yards away. I remembered seeing a couple of tents camped in this basin last fall. I quickly located a place to set up camp for the evening next to a grove of trees. I had reached the pass in roughly three and half hours. The overcast remained. There was a light breeze, bringing wisps of fog through the pass from time to time. I caught occasional glimpses of the ridges nearby.

The western ridge of Buckhorn Mountain is seen through the clouds from my campsite
