I crossed the highway and followed the trail below Naches Peak. The day was certainly cool and crisp. Water in the soil had frozen overnight, producing half-inch ice crystals along the trail. Each step I took produced an unusual crunching sound. There were several patches of snow along the trail. I met a fellow hiker who told me that he turned back the preceding weekend due to snow. A second hiker confirmed there were ten inches of snow in a nearby pass that weekend.
