Mt Adams '12, Mt Adams Wilderness, Aug 16, 2012 - Aug 17, 2012 page 2 / 48
The trail starts out at 5500 feet in a forest of pine. The partly shadowed path made the hike rather pleasant. In just 1.3 miles, we reached the junction with the Round-the-Mountain trail. The ranger told us to proceed straight ahead for the typical summer, South Ridge route, so after a short break, that's just what we did.
As we climbed above the treeline, rock dominated the landscape. A few trees and some lingering snowfields were present. Flowers grew in some unusual locations in the dry, sandy terrain. And Mt Adams came in to view.
