As we gained altitude, the peaks to the south, which we had gaped at during the previous day, became ever more beautiful. They were rugged and strong with lots of vertical lines and plenty of glaciers!

The trail junction at Cascade Pass, now 600 feet below, appears even farther below the Triplets, on the horizon
