On the a friend's suggestion, we climbed Mt Townsend recently. This peak lies in the Buckhorn Wilderness Area, outside of Quilcene.

The two-hour drive from home was uneventul. We arrived shortly before 11:00am. We donned our boots, signed the register and began the 3000 foot climb to the top.

The trail begins in a cool, dense forest, heading steeply uphill during the first mile. The grade eases slightly beyond that point.

Roughly 1.5 miles in, the forest was thinner. A view across the valley developed.
