The grade certainly did not average 35-40%, but some sections probably were that steep. With the loose gravel on some parts of the trail, I wondered just how difficult the return trip would be.
Despite the steep trail, it was well kept. It was also early in the day, and would remain in the shade for a few hours. The land was covered in second growth Douglas fir and plenty of rhododendrons. I suspect the lower portion of this trail would be beautiful in the spring, while the flowers were in bloom.
