While heading back down the trail, I kept my eyes open for the first deer I had spotted. I found her in the same location, still standing motionless. This time, however, I located her mother as well. She sat nearby, slightly closer to the trail, but obscured by a couple of trees. The mother watched me carefully, but unconcerned by my presence. I watched them for a minute, enjoying their peaceful demeanor.
Upon reaching Mowich Lake, I met another hiker who had come up from the Carbon river, via Spray Park. He was headed back via Ipsut Pass. Perhaps I'll try that loop some day.
I found some broken icicle pieces in the trail. Just above the trail were several slender icicles precariously hanging from some mossy rock. A few of these were amazingly narrow and long. One was roughly nine inches long. Along at least half of its length, it was no more than a quarter inch in diameter! Water slowly flowed down its length. While I watched, another icicle broke from its base and fell to the trail.
