Silver Star Mountain, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, June 14, 2013 page 1 / 22
Libby and I headed south, to Silver Star Mountain for a short hike. We chose the hike for its proximity to a search we were scheduled to participate in the following morning.
We left the house around 1:00pm, arriving at the Sunset Falls campground at 3:45pm. We paid the campground fee and set up our tent, then continued up the rugged road 7.5 miles to the northern trailhead. It took 30-40 minutes to drive those 7.5 miles.
The trailhead view was wonderful, with good exposure to the west. Several flowers were in bloom nearby, particularly the beargrass.
