Libby and Karen sat down. I took off, to scout a route up the hill! The trail continued across a small patch of snow, then around to the north side of the massive rock. At that point I found myself standing at the base of a gulley. I checked the rock and began the scramble upward.

In a few minutes I found myself at the crest of an exposed ridge, looking across North Bend, westward.
