The trail above Rachel Lake climbs about 400 feet to the ridge west of the lake. An unmarked junction is then reached. Proceeding right (north) would take one to Lila lake. We turned left, following the ridge another half mile to the Rampart Lakes. The map we used showed only five substantial lakes in the area. We found nearly a dozen interconnected lakes, tarns and ponds, though, with beautiful views around every corner.
