North Fork Quinalt River,  Olympic National Park,  Sep 24, 2010 - Sep 25, 2010     page 17 / 30

The next campsite was at Twelve Mile Shelter, nearly four miles beyond Trapper Shelter. The area did not possess the beauty I typically associate with a back woods camp. It was mostly trees and gravel. The rocks were level, however, and finding a good sleeping spot was easy. But where was the shelter, I wondered? I explored briefly before setting up my gear and found the old shelter about fifty feet from my campsite, covered in debris. It was then that I recalled the park website explaining that the structure was buried in alluvial. Heavy run off from a winter storm undoubtedly moved all the debris down the river, raising most of this campsite's elevation by six feet or so.
