We had fun on the Hana Highway trip. But it was long. We intended to drive to the top of Mt. Haleakala while in Maui. The top of this peak rests at roughly 10,000 feet and spends most of the day obscured in clouds. The only time of day when this peak was clear (at least from our perspective) was in the first few hours of daylight. This was also when the water was calmest at the condo, and provided better snorkeling conditions. We decided not to drive up the mountain, but to stick around the condo, enjoying the sun and surf for our remaining couple of days.
