Kevin was home from school for vacation and wanted to do some backpacking. Having been to Marmot Pass a few times before, I convinced him and Libby to make the long ascent into the area for an overnight visit.

The trailhead sits about twenty miles into the hills west of Quilcene. We arrived there about 10:30am. The sky was bright and blue, promising for a dry, warm day. The first half of the six-mile hike is in the woods, where the shade of the trees made for a comfortable walk.
