Marmot Pass '05, Buckhorn Wilderness Area, Sep 11, 2005 - Sep 13, 2005 page 2 / 26
At roughly 5.5 miles, and 5700 feet, a junction was reached. We followed the left fork for a quarter mile to camp areas near Buckhorn Lake. We each anticipated the high lake to be beautiful alpine oasis, with plenty of camping sites nearby. Instead, it turned out to be a homely tarn. There were perhaps four sites near the lake, with only one providing any view of it. We took one just up the hill near a creek. Interestingly, the lake had such dense forest so close to its shore that could not be seen from the high meadow trail we had arrived on.
