I relaxed near the lake and refilled the water bottle, before heading up the hill. It was a quick mile-and-a-half to Lake LaCrosse.
I had the whole place to myself that night. I wandered a little near the lake that evening, but not much. I was exhausted. I checked my GPS and performed some quick arithmetic. I'd covered 14 miles and gained about 5000 feet that day. No wonder I was so tired!
The evening cooled off quickly. The sky was clear, so I again slept under the stars. As the sun dropped further below the horizon, more and more stars were visible in the sky. I spotted several satellites and at least a dozen shooting stars during my first thirty minutes in the sleeping bag. Very pleasant indeed.
