Once on the foggy trail, I moved quickly northeastward. The group of elk I'd seen the day before were heard crashing through the brush at one point. I never did see them, but they must've heard me coming. I did see one lone bull elk some 600 feet below me at the edge of a meadow.
I caught occasional glimpses of the ridgeline ahead, through the fog. Eventually, I found myself at the Enchanted Valley trail, noting a nearby campsite where Roger, Dad and I likely spent one very wet night in the mid-1970s. But it was dry and sunny now, and travel up the hill through Anderson Pass was much more comfortable, though still steep.
I spent several minutes in the pass, taking photographs and chatting with another hiker, then decided to walk down to Little Siberia Camp. I figured that if the rain came, that location might be preferrable to camping somewhere higher.
Little Siberia lived up to its name. After 4:30 in the afternoon, the breeze picked up and the temperature seemed to drop quickly. I quickly donned more layers to stay warm.
