LaCrosse Loop '15, Olympic National Park, Sep 10, 2015 - Sep 16, 2015 page 20 / 47
My original intent was to head southwest from the pass, cross the ridge and visit Lake Ben. I was told by the couple I'd met the day before that the ridge was a bit tough to cross with a full pack, so I figured on visiting with just a light day pack. I continued through the pass and along the trail, perhaps a half mile. I could easily have travelled across the basin and back up the ridge, but was still tired from my long hike the day before. I headed back to the pass, and found a good rock to relax on.
Another hiker from Lopez Island showed up about 15 minutes later. We had a nice conversation, then he continued toward LaCrosse basin, and I headed up the shoulder of Mt Duckabush to see what I could find.
I got a wonderful view of the nearly extinct glacier on the north side of Mt Duckabush.
