Descending from the ridge into Grand Valley one loses about 1500 feet of elevation. The upper several hundred feet or so are dry, with sparse, stunted trees. The remaining several hundred feet involve thicker forests and a few large meadows. These meadows had a surprising variety of wildflowers in bloom.
