Goat Rocks, Pacific Crest Trail, Aug 18, 2001 - Aug 25, 2001 page 16 / 20
The fourth day showed signs of weather deterioration. High clouds were present during the morning, and by noon the skies were threatening to rain. We hiked past Shoe Lake getting spectacular views like the one below. More goat were spotted on the hills just north of the lake, too. The temperature was dropping, also, so we decided to hike to White Pass and spend the night there, at the campground.
Libby was scheduled to meet us the next morning for a food drop, as well as to take me home, since I had to work a few days later. I was able to reach her on the cell phone prior to reaching White Pass. She confirmed that a strong wet front was on its way and offered to pick me up a day early. I jumped at the opportunity to go home and sleep dry and comfortably. Of course, I took my fair share of ribbing for heading out a day earlier than planned.
I figured I had covered 30 miles and roughly 5000 feet or so of elevation gain.
I left the digital camera with Tom to chronicle the remainder of the trip. A few of his photos are found on this page.
