Flapjack Lakes '08, Olympic National Park, Oct 11, 2008 - Oct 12, 2008 page 36 / 36
While the area was attractive for its color, I was not impressed enough to stay. I decided to head down the hill, either spending the evening in the valley, or making a long walk out to the trailhead.
I took the Black and White trail down to the Skokomish river trail. The Black and White Lakes trail descends gradually for the first mile. This section of trail is free of rock and root, providing for easy travel. The remaining mile and a half descends steeply. Roots become more common here, giving the legs a real workout during the 3000-foot descent! The trail joins the North Fork Skokomish trail at Big Log camp. I made some dinner in the camp then began a long hike out.
I covered about 22.5 miles and gained roughly 7300 feet on this brief excursion.
