A few years ago my Uncle Den told the boys he would take them fishing if they came to visit. After the boys reminded us several times, we spoke with Den and made the plans. Chris, Kevin and I headed to Portland on the afternoon of the 9th to my parent's home. The boys, my Dad, and I would meet Den at his home the next morning.

My aunt and uncle fed us all some lunch, then we loaded the backpacks and fishing poles into Den's rig. We headed east, through the Columbia river gorge to LePage Park, where we put in. The park sits at the mouth of the John Day river and provides overnight camping as well as boating, swimming and picnicking facilities.
