Eagle Creek, Columbia River Gorge, September 27, 2014 page 24 / 24
In the last mile or so, Ron and Debbie hiked ahead. Libby and I were a bit slower. Rounding one turn in the trail, I heard a tapping sound. I looked up to see a seven-inch woodpecker in the tree beside the trail. He looked at me cautiously, then continued his work. Of course, Libby and I took some photos. The bird seemed unconcerned that we were just eight feet away!
We had a great time on this quintessential Columbia River Gorge trail. Returning home, we reviewed our GPS tracks and decided we'd hiked about 15 miles that day.
