Normally, the trillium blooms with three white petals. Three pointed leaves can be seen below and between each petal. Occasionally a variation occurs with four points, which my father as aptly named the "Quadrium." We spotted a nice example of this rarity along the trail.

A four-pointed trillium blooms among its more common three-pointed brothers
