Dege Peak, Mt Rainier National Park, July 24, 2009 page 1 / 10
It was late July and time for the White River Run, a fifty-mile endurance run for ultra-hardcore runners. Pierce County Search and Rescue assists with this event each year as a fund raiser for the group. The run begins at 5:30am Saturday morning, so most of the SAR group heads up to the starting line and camps there Friday evening. We planned on doing the same, with a day hike planned Friday with the rest of the group. Due to a delayed commuting flight home, I chose not to participate in the group hike. Rather, Libby and I drove up to Sunrise for a shorter hike to Dege Peak, along the Sourdough Ridge trail.
