Crater Lake,  Crater Lake National Park,  Aug 16, 2004 - Aug 19, 2004     page 6 / 36

We had breakfast, cleaned our dishes and gathered some trail food for a hike up Mt. Scott, which lies on the east side of the lake. As is typical of many of the national parks, there are several places to pull off the road for a good view.

One of the amazing qualities of the lake is it's deep blue color. The lake is the deepest in the United States, measuring roughly 1940 feet at it's deepest point. This depth, and the extremely clean lake water absorb so much of the ambient light, that Crater Lake reflects only the deepest blue color. Many of the images presented here were not significantly color adjusted. In other words, the lake really did appear that blue!
