That afternoon a small group of hikers arrived at the lake. They were camping closer to the pass and on their way into the Bailey Range.

After lunch, we secured our gear and climbed to the ridge east of the lake. We quickly reached the western end of a long meadow where we would begin the following day's hiking. We could see part of our planned route, as well as several nearby peaks.
