I remained in the pass for over an hour, taking photos, eating, and admiring the views. While I was in the pass, the horseback riders arrived. The last few hundred feet of trail are rather narrow and somewhat unstable. I was not surprised to see the riders dismount, and lead their horses to the pass. As I understood it, they planned to head into the Dose valley and over Hayden Pass. How could they dare take animals over such steep terrain? As it turned out, I was either mistaken, or they decided against that plan of action, because they eventually left the pass back to the north.
