I sat there in the basin, frustrated by my conservative nature. I knew that my concern with the gully meant I had been pushing my personal envelope. I also knew that I had made the right decision because of it.
But now what to do? Should I stick around in the basin? Choose another location for the night? Try a different route up to the ridge, avoiding the gully altogether?
I ate some lunch, stowed my gear and grabbed my camera. I wandered in the meadow high above Eleven Bull Basin and contemplated the situation. The view was outstanding. But there was not much more to do in this area. I decided to hike to the meadow above Boston Charlie's. Water was available there, as well as another outstanding view.
