Bailey Range Traverse, Olympic National Park, Jul 26, 2007 - Aug 1, 2007 page 70 / 97
We continued up over a steep snow slope, reaching an elevation of roughly 6000 feet. From here we ran the ridge over snow and rock for next half mile or so. Then we traversed a long (three-quarter mile) snow field as we neared Mt. Childs. We crossed the ridge to the south, passing just east of Mt. Childs, following easy talus fields and snow slopes all the way to Bear Pass. From the Bear Pass area, the view of Mt. Olympus changes dramatically. The Hoh glacier disappears behind some of the lesser peaks east of Mt. Olympus, and the Humes glacier becomes visible. The country takes on a truly wild flavor.
