The next few miles continue parallel to the river, so the grade remains relatively gentle. About a half mile beyond the Appleton Pass junction, the trail turns southward and begins climbing into Soleduck Park. It becomes steep at times, which slowed the adults in the party. Tom and Kevin continued up the hill barely noticing the increased grade.
