Lake of the Angels, Olympic National Park, Jun 26, 2004 - Jun 27, 2004 page 7 / 20
The trail becomes steeper the further we go. We climb out of the trees, seeing rock walls ahead. The trail scrambles briefly along this headwall, requiring careful hand and foot use. At one point it is necessary to grasp tree roots to ascend. Fortunately, this section is brief. We all made it past the headwall without difficulty. Above the headwall, the trees are smaller, and fewer. More wildflowers are blooming, particularly avalanche lilies. The trail crosses a few snow fields as we enter the national park.
