While the "road hiking" is a bit less desirable than hiking along a trail, there is plenty to see. The first mile or two one can see wonderful views of the lower Dosewallips river. The road then climbs into the forest for another few miles. The road rejoins the river later. At about 4.5 miles, the valley becomes quite steep. The road climbs steeply along the river, as well.
