Tilly Jane Trail,  Mt Hood,  September 26, 2014     page 1 / 12

For several weeks we had a backpacking trip in the Olympic National Park planned with our friends Ron and Debbie. As the late September date approached, we watched a forecast for rain develop. As an alternative, we spent the time in Hood River, with day trips to nearby locations.

Our first day trip was to the Tilly Jane trail on the northwest side of Mt. Hood. The trail began at 3800 feet. Though it wasn't difficult, it was decidedly uphill. After about one mile, we emerged from the forest and into a burn area from a few years. The charred trees and young undergrowth took on a flavor quite different from what Libby and I were accustomed to.
