Spray Park '04,  Mt Rainier National Park,  August 11, 2004     page 1 / 17

Mid-July to Mid-August the flowers are usually outstanding in Spray Park. This short hike is in the northwest section of Mt. Rainier National Park.

The hike begins at Mowich Lake, elevation 4925 (see map). The trail is part of the Wonderland Trail which circles Mt. Rainier. It meanders through beautiful forest, crossing a couple of creeks along the way. At 2.2 miles there is a junction. The trail to the right proceeds across a short scree slope and takes one to a spectacular view of Spray Falls. But rather than hike simply to this destination, continue on up the left fork to the meadows.

Following the left fork, the trail begins climbing steeply. The forest thins a bit as the trail winds through some small meadows. Wildlife can be seen occasionally.

This black bear seemed uninterested in us, scampering into the woods quickly
