The next morning, we packed our things and prepared for the river ford. There is no bridge across the river here. I put on some sandals I had taken especially for this purpose, and walked with my boots and socks in hand. Then I took the sandals off, and threw them, one by one, across the river for Tom. The river was cold, but not as bad as I expected. After drying off and putting on our boots, we were on our way.
